Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or direct message when needed to answer it. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems receive basic technical details when a visitor loads a page:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a device. They and analytics services help us understand traffic in aggregate, including popular pages and common exit points. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how parts of the site work.
What We Do With This Data
- Operating, maintaining, and improving page performance
- Routing a search request to the selected outside provider
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Rappahannock County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to the Rappahannock County Sheriff's Office, local court clerks, Virginia State Police, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Public-body access is governed by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and record-specific limits, while Code § 19.2-389 controls dissemination of state criminal-history information. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their own privacy policies govern submitted data, retention, and disclosure. Those choices are outside our control, so review the provider's policy before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to courts, the Sheriff's Office, Virginia agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy terms apply. Check them before sharing personal data.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across sites and select ads.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security measures protect the information we handle. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so a breach cannot be ruled out.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from a person under 18. If such data is identified, a deletion request may be submitted.
Your Data Rights
Where its scope and exemptions apply, the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, Code § 59.1-577, provides rights concerning access, correction, deletion, portability, and certain processing. Depending on the law that governs a request, you may be able to:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
